Meirion Alan Ginsberg
Meirion Ginsberg is an exceptional artistic talent emerging from North Wales. Born and raised in this region, Meirion takes a distinct approach with his work that marks a welcome contrast to what he regards as the ‘stereotypical landscape paintings of Wales’.
In opposition to this ‘scenic’ tradition Meirion’s work is predominantly autobiographical; the artist will often portray himself, friends or family as he says, using “a Dadaist mish-mash where humour is injected”. Influenced by a huge range of painters from Willem DeKooning, to Rembrandt, to Norman Rockwell and Frances Bacon, Meirion’s versatility of application and mark-making will often lean towards the figurative or abstract and it is this that injects a fresh and exciting vitality into his work.
Humour plays an important part in Meirion’s creations and the artist balances this with strong characterisation and improvisational skills that often lead to a painting’s ‘intuitive’ construction. Although Meirion consciously attempts to move his work away from traditional artistic ideals, he freely admits that they will often subtly influence the final piece - which only serves to lend greater depth to each painting.
