Smai / Iawn
How’s tricks my budding welsh music enthusiasts?
Hope you're all cwl. Without further ado here’s the next installment of welsh music scene madness!
First up, the new Derwyddon Dr Gonzo album is officially finished. With the album lined up for release on Guto Brychan’s new label ‘Copa’ expect to see the release hit the shops before this summer; with crazy nice production from Kris Jenkins (SFA), and collabs with various artists including Hoax Emcee all we need now is the weather to compliment this fresh affro funk nine piece.
Next up, is a stunning album release from a new solo artist who’s creating waves in the welsh scene, step forth - Huw M. The album ‘Os Mewn Swn’ (If In Noise) is a collection of melodic / folky / acoustic loveliness, very charming indeed and is now available in all good welsh shops / sebon.co.uk + more - along with an amazing cover! Huw M has a crazy gigging schedule (myspace.com/huwmm), so expect to see him live in a venue near you very soon, his solo shows consist of a loop station / guitar / keys / percussion................he’s a one man folk army so go check him out!!!
Now onto the hiphop front
A recent hook up between myself and a few of the hiphop boyos on this end resulted in the formation of a new project. Well, now I can announce that we have a name too!! We are now known as Pen-Ta-Gram (Pen-or-gram) + to make it even better, we also have a myspace page with three tracks ‘n’ everything!! Go check us out - myspace.com/pentagramcymraeg for all the info on the band + individual artists. Coupled along with support from Bethan Elfyn, we have received airplay on BBC Radio 1 / Radio 6 / Radio Cymru + Radio Wales, expect to see our gigs section fill up in the forthcoming months, or you could just pop over to the Waterloo, Bangor this friday night for a hit of Pen-ta-gram tunage!!
And to finish this column off with a bang, Long time producer Dyl Mei has at last found his feet with a new solo project, the amazingly named ‘Deathstar Tecwyn’ is now underway. Expect to hear a lot more from this Garndolbenmaen based musical fanatic in the forthcoming months. Collaborations with Bryn Fon / Bryn Terfel and Hogiar Wyddfa are all lined up, Deathstar Tecwyn is sure to form an army of unstoppable welsh folk siths ready to dominate the Welsh music scene!
Keep ‘em peeled!!
That’s me done for this time round my fellow butties, hope you all overdosed on this hit of welsh music scene happenings, as usual I will catch you next time with more addictive freshness from the Welsh music scene!!
BBBBbbbBBrrrrRRRrrrrr!!!

Mr Phormula
Ed Holden, aka Mr Phormula is a familiar face to many on the North Wales music scene. This prolific artist regularly features on programmes on Radio 1 Wales and S4C. He's worked with a huge number of massively successful bands - Y Diwygiad, Speculum and the recently disbanded Genod Droog to name a few. When not producing tracks at his new studio Ed will often be facilitating any number of hiphop workshops throughout the community as 808. This man just doesn’t need to sleep.
